Saturday! -- What an incredible day! We worked until about 1pm and finished carpet, linoleum and trim on two houses. We then got changed and headed for Cameron Louisiana about 20 miles from where we are staying. This is where a TON of devastation occurred. In fact the whole town was gone. A few pix here but a ton more to come on Monday night or Tuesday AM. This little town is right on the gulf and took a HUGE almost direct hit. Amazing stuff that I will explain more about. The pix here is of a small strip center near the water front. On the front corner you see there some red bar stools, (Dave Kolbo our team leader is sitting on them), these stools are bolted into the ground and is apparently all that is left of what was a diner. We saw things like a double wide trailer which had been blown in half and 1 side was across the small river and the other on the road side. Houses moved off of foundations and whole schools crumbled. Lots more to follow but I am exhausted. The brotherhood is phenomenal and the experiences are beyond description of the emotion and joy from what is being accomplished. This relief work has been going on for almost 7 months and is expected to last as long as another 5 years. While things are winding down- the area I described above is Cameron and now work has been done there by the RBC due the destruction-here in Lake Charles the teams and hubs will be moving east towards Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
If I havenÂt mentioned this before there are 16 of us from Region 9. Wee are split up among 4 homes of the local friends. There are 6 of us camping out on the floor of a brothers home. we are across the parking lot from the KH and it is just super logistically. More tomorrow or Monday with lots of pix. Still only have a dial up connection so we havenÂt been able to do as much posting plus the pace here is fast and sleep is slim. We are all wiped out tired but keep staying up late sharing stories. More on our resident historian, librarian and all around great brother Lou Porto next time.
